About Us

Hartshorne Veterinary Surgery is a traditional practice in a village setting, offering a kind and caring approach that puts your pet's needs first.

We are a relaxed and friendly practice, owned and run by Geoffrey Smith.

With 15 minute appointments, our aim is to build a relationship with the animal and the owner for the lifetime of your pet.

With over 30 years' experience working in the Swadlincote area, you can be assured your pet's care is in good hands.

The practice premises were originally the village convenience store and Post Office. When we first opened our doors in November 2014, it had been converted to provide the bright and spacious veterinary surgery it is today.

Meet the team

Geoffrey Smith

Geoffrey graduated from Liverpool University in 1983 and came to Swadlincote with his first job, staying until 2013, when he became increasingly disillusioned by the direction the practice was taking (i.e. more money-focused).

He decided to set up his own practice to put into place his philosophy of giving an animal the treatement that is in its best interest, not a business decision.

Emily Jones

Emily joined us on work experience, when she was studying to be a veterinary care assistant at Rodbaston College, Staffordshire.

She took a full-time role with us in July 2016, after completing her course. She provides the team with a youthful exuberance and enthusiasm.

Her pet is a 13-year-old Jack Russell terrier called Spud.
